The Rialto Cinema Bar & Grill was renovated from one of San Antonio’s oldest movie theaters and districts. As part of the renovation, the design team looked to upgrade the poorly lit area and perimeter lighting installation. The existing 1000W fixtures provided inadequate light levels, and did not match the style of the newly upgraded space. The original installation had too few poles to evenly illuminate the lot, causing shadows that created an unsafe environment for nighttime movie patrons.

As a solution Philips Wide-Lite presented Optra, a luminaire which combines exceptional design with a revolutionary collimating lens and an efficient reflector. The optics utilize lamp output to the fullest in order to provide extremely uniform illumination and low glare, allowing for maximum fixture spacing. Because of its design and outstanding performance, Optra was chosen as the ideal retrofit solution for the Rialto. Optra properly and evenly illuminates the space using the existing poles, and surpasses the previous light levels with 875W lamps, saving 155W per luminaire. After the successful installation at the Rialto, the owner retrofitted Optra into additional theatres.
