The Project
The Texas Capitol is an extraordinary example of 19th century architecture and is widely recognized as one of the nation’s most distinguished capitol buildings. The exterior walls are formed of “sunset red” pink granite that was quarried just 50 miles from the site. As one of the main tourist attractions in Austin, this building had to leave a lasting impression to spectators. In 2008, the Capitol committee sought to replace the existing mercury vapor lighting solution for the building’s vast exterior.
After Philips Wide-Lite presented a mock-up with EFX floodlights, the decision was simple. EFX was the ideal solution for the job and gave the building the enchanted, historic look that they were looking for. The wide reflector provided the optimum distribution and excellent uniformity for the façade of the Capitol. EFX accented the pink granite strikingly well, producing the appropriate color rendition for night time viewers.
